Combat sports careers aren't only defined by what happens under the lights.

For Riley Colburn and Daymar Ortiz, the next chapter includes building something of their own: Eclipse MMA.

Eclipse represents an opportunity for two people with firsthand experience in combat sports to take what they've learned through years around fighting, training, competition and fight teams and begin creating an environment of their own.

And Riley isn't simply building Eclipse from the sidelines.

She's representing it.

Riley Colburn Is Fighting Under the Eclipse Name

Riley Colburn is an active Colorado combat athlete with experience across MMA, Muay Thai and grappling.

Her amateur MMA career has already put her through the experiences that shape fighters outside of the wins and losses: preparing for competition, managing the demands of camp, stepping into uncomfortable situations and continuing to develop after every performance.

Now another name is becoming part of that journey:

Eclipse MMA.

In April 2026, Colburn represented Eclipse MMA while competing at Grappling Industries Denver, putting the Eclipse name into competition as the team continues to develop.

That matters.

A fight team becomes more than a name when its athletes begin carrying it onto the mats, into cages and eventually into increasingly bigger opportunities.

For Eclipse, Riley is helping do exactly that.

Daymar Ortiz Brings His Own Fight Experience

Eclipse isn't being built from theory.

Daymar Ortiz brings extensive firsthand combat experience of his own.

Ortiz compiled a 4-2 amateur MMA record, earning victories by both submission and decision during his competitive career.

His fight history even intersects with one of Colorado's most recognizable MMA success stories. Ortiz competed against future UFC title challenger Cory Sandhagen during Sandhagen's amateur career in 2012.

Experiences like those provide something that can't be learned entirely from certifications or instruction manuals.

You learn what preparing to fight actually feels like.

You learn what athletes experience when a camp isn't going perfectly.

You understand the nerves before competition, the consequences of mistakes and the difference between knowing a technique and executing it against someone actively trying to beat you.

That experience can become invaluable when the fighter eventually becomes the person helping develop the next athlete.

From Fighters to Builders

Starting Eclipse puts Riley and Daymar in an interesting position.

They're no longer responsible only for their own development.

They're building something that can eventually influence the development of other people.

That's a very different responsibility.

Every combat-sports gym eventually develops an identity.

It comes from the expectations coaches establish, how teammates treat one another, how fighters respond to losses, how beginners are welcomed and what happens on the days when nobody particularly feels like training.

Those decisions ultimately determine what wearing the team's name means.

Riley and Daymar now have the opportunity to shape that identity for Eclipse.

Eclipse Is Still at the Beginning

One of the most exciting things about Eclipse is that its story isn't already written.

It's being written now.

The gym doesn't need decades of history for its beginning to matter. Every established fight team once had a period when very few people knew its name.

There was a first fighter.

A first competition.

A first win.

A first group of athletes who believed in what was being created before everybody else knew about it.

Eclipse is in that stage now.

And Riley Colburn is already carrying its name into competition.

Building More Than Fighters

The best combat-sports environments ultimately teach things that extend far beyond fighting.

Consistency.

Accountability.

Confidence.

Resilience.

The ability to remain composed when something becomes uncomfortable.

The willingness to come back after losing.

Those lessons are part of why combat sports can have such a profound effect on the people who participate in them—even if they never intend to become professional fighters.

For Riley and Daymar, Eclipse provides the opportunity to build an environment around those lessons while applying what their own experiences in combat sports have taught them.

The Eclipse Story Is Just Starting

There will be plenty more to learn about Eclipse as the team develops.

Its fighters will compete.

New athletes will walk through the doors.

Riley's own career will continue developing.

Daymar will continue passing along what years of combat experience have taught him.

And each of those moments will add another piece to the identity behind the Eclipse name.

Fight Plan Pro will continue following that journey—not only because Riley Colburn is building Eclipse, but because she's already part of the Fight Plan community.

Combat sports shouldn't only celebrate fighters once everybody knows their names.

Sometimes the more interesting story is watching them build something before everyone else is paying attention.

For Eclipse MMA, that story is happening right now.
